  • Description: A very unusual set of earthen golu bommais representing the Pancha Bhoota Sthalangal - the five temples at which Shiva is believed to manifest as the five primary elements,  air, earth, ether, water, fire. Each of these representations of Shiva is accompanied by his consort Shakti in various forms. Starting from the upper row left, the first idol is of the Vayu (air) lingam of Kalahasteewara, at Sri Kalahasti in Andhra Pradesh; and his consort  Gnana Prasunambika Devi, stands beside him. The second idol is of Ekambareswara, and his consort Kamakshi. At the Ekambareshwarar temple in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, Shiva is  represented as a Prithvi (earth ) lingam. The third idol in the upper row is of Chidambaranatha or Thillai Nataraja, at Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, where Shiva manifests as ether. He is accompanied by his consort Sivakama Sundari. The first idol in the lower row is of Jambukeshwara, at Thiruvanaikaval, Tamil Nadu, where he manifests as a Varuna (water) lingam.  He is accompanied by his consort Akhilandeshwari.  The last set of idols is of Arunachaleshwara and his consort Unnamalai Amman. In this temple in Thirvannamalai, Tamil Nadu,  Shiva manifests as Agni (fire) lingam. This set is a collector's item and a colourful and skilled representation of the five fundamental elements.
